Pupil Leadership
Pupil Leadership at Our School
At Booth Wood Academy, we strongly believe in the power of pupil voice and in our children’s ability to lead with confidence and integrity. Our aim is to help shape exceptional citizens for our community and future leaders of the world.
To achieve this, we provide our pupils with meaningful opportunities to serve their fellow students and take on leadership roles in key areas of school life. These roles encourage children to take responsibility, be accountable, and make decisions that have a positive impact on the whole school—both now and for future pupils.
We are incredibly proud of all our leadership teams. Through their roles, we help nurture their experience, resilience, and confidence. We believe that by the time children leave our school, they will have developed the skills to stand up for their beliefs, use a strong moral compass rooted in British values, and articulate their viewpoints with respect and dignity. They learn to debate ideas thoughtfully, even with those who may hold different perspectives, while maintaining kindness and understanding.
Our leadership programme plays a vital role in developing these qualities over time, ensuring every child has the chance to grow as a leader and make a meaningful contribution to school life.
Leadership Opportunities Throughout Our School
There are many opportunities for pupils to lead within our school. Leadership begins at class level, where children take on a variety of monitor responsibilities. These may change daily, weekly, or termly, and start with simple tasks in Reception before progressing as pupils move up the school.
From Year 1, children can put themselves forward for our School Council, an important decision‑making body that represents pupil voice across the school.
From Year 3, pupils can apply to join our wider School Leadership Teams, taking on roles such as:
- Corridor Executives
- Plant Controllers
- Eco Warriors
- Cloakroom Organisers
- Playground Scouts
- Library Monitors
- Friendship Finders
- Fashion Finders
- Club Ambassadors
Children take part in a rigorous application process, including completing an application form, taking part in a job interview with the school council, and, if successful, receiving their role along with a small ‘salary’.
In Year 6, pupils can become Subject Ambassadors, supporting subject leaders and promoting their curriculum area across the school. Our pupils also take on Team Leader roles within our four house teams—Blue, Red, Yellow and Green—helping with weekly team‑point counting and supporting sports events.
We are also proud to appoint our Head Boy and Head Girl from Year 6. They play a key role in representing the school, greeting important visitors, and supporting leadership activities throughout the year.
