An outstanding, innovative, and creative school that stimulates minds through imaginative learning experiences!

Food

Providing healthy, tasty, and nutritious meals for your child is a key part of life at Booth Wood Academy. We work closely with Innovate (Impact Food Group), our catering partner under the David Ross Education Trust’s Healthy Lifestyles programme, to deliver a whole-school approach to promoting healthy eating.

Our Food Philosophy

Our catering service revolves around five core principles to support your child’s health and enjoyment of food:

  • Fuel for Learning & Life: Freshly prepared meals that surpass national School Food Standards to help your child stay active and focussed throughout the school day.
  • Whole School Food Culture: We encourage children to explore a wide variety of balanced meals and foster positive, lifelong food habits.
  • Exceptional & Inclusive Dining: Our dining areas provide a warm, welcoming environment where children and staff eat together in a positive, inclusive way without stigma.
  • Sustainable Sourcing: We prioritise fresh, seasonal, and locally sourced ingredients to reduce waste and promote environmental responsibility.
  • Dining Room as an Information Hub: Food education is supported with informative visual displays and materials within the dining space.

Meal Bookings and Menus

Parents and carers can make meal bookings directly into the system and our school office will share the full details as part of our admission process.

There are two menu options available:

  • o Standard Menus: A variety of well-balanced meals adhering to School Food Standards.
  • o Allergen Menus: Specialised menus designed to support children with allergies and food intolerances.

Please note, parents of children with allergies should contact the school office to provide full details before making any meal bookings.

Our current menu can be found below on this page.

It is important that Parents\Carers book meals for the following week no later than end of the day Tuesday of the week before, to give Innovate time to order the correct amount of food. Please book early enough for the week following school holidays.

Menus will be updated each term to provide variety and extra choice.

Pricing

  • Paid meals for children are priced at £2.85.
  • If your child is absent from school on a particular day when a meal has been ordered and paid for, no refund will be available. If you have a pre-planned absence, please ensure no meal remains booked for this day.

Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM) and Free School Meals (FSM)

All children in Reception, Year 1, and Year 2 are eligible for Universal Infant Free School Meals. This means your child can receive a healthy, nutritious school meal every day at no cost to you. UIFSM is designed to ensure young children get the fuel they need to learn and grow.

What Are Benefit-Related Free School Meals (FSM)?

Families who receive certain income-related benefits may be eligible for Free School Meals regardless of their child’s year group. FSM eligibility provides not only free meals but also additional support such as help with school costs and eligibility for certain discounts.

Why You Should Apply for FSM If Eligible

Even if your child receives UIFSM, it is important to apply for Benefit-Related FSM if you qualify. This helps both your family and the school by unlocking additional funding to improve resources and support for your child’s education. It also ensures your child can continue to receive free meals when they move beyond Year 2.

How to Apply

Applying is quick and confidential. To check your eligibility and apply, please visit Apply for free school meals - GOV.UK or contact the school office for assistance.

Meals are not normally available to book on the day and must be booked in advance – even if your child qualifies for UIFSM or FSM. If you have not made a booking, you will be asked to provide a packed lunch.

Allergy and Dietary Information

The school has a robust allergen/food intolerance procedure. If your son or daughter has challenges with allergens, please speak to the school office about this. You may be required to provide medical evidence to ensure that the meal prepared is 100% safe.

We aim to provide your child with healthy, enjoyable meals that support their development and well-being. For any questions about school meals or to discuss specific dietary requirements, please contact the school office
